Five Steps To Ensure Easy Unpacking After A Move
As you approach a big move, it might feel overwhelming just starting the packing process. If you take a few minutes to get organized though, we promise you can do your future self — you know the one who has to unpack everything — a big favour.
Here’s how to ensure your eventual unpacking is stress-free and as smooth as possible.
1. Pack mindfully
Effort spent ahead of time getting organized will pay off down the road. If you quickly throw random items into random boxes in a rush, unpacking is going to be much harder than it needs to be. If you take the time to carefully plan out what should be in each box, and group like-minded items together, unpacking won’t feel like a broken jigsaw puzzle.
2. Label your boxes properly
Labelling the outside of the box with what room it belongs in will ensure your movers leave it in the right place. That way you know before you even start unpacking that you don’t have to roam room to room looking for a missing box.
3. Start big
Set up your large furniture first. Once the bed and couch are in place you will have a place to sit and unpack, or a place to take a cat nap while you take a quick break from unpacking.
4. Prioritize your rooms
Before you dive in, take a minute to think what do you need your hands on first? Is your kitchen the first room you need access to? Or is it your bathroom, or bedroom closet or garage? Decide which order you want to tackle your rooms, then get started. See if you can complete a room before you move to the next.
5. Say goodbye to boxes
If you use Frogbox’s reusable boxes for your move, pick a corner to carefully stack them all as you unpack. If you use cardboard boxes, break each one down as you go and stash them out of the way. Keeping your new space clutter-free as you unpack will ensure you won’t be tripping over empty items.
