5 Things You Can Do To Make Your Movers Happy
You’ve hired movers – that’s an excellent start to your move! Now that you’ve delegated this important part of your move, there are a few things as homeowners that you can do that will ensure the smoothest of moves and keep your movers happy. Some of these tips are common sense and some you might not have thought of. Follow them all and your movers will be sure to thank you at the end of the move.
1. Arrange Your Boxes
The first thing we take is your boxes. If they are all in one area and flat on top the faster we can get them out to the truck and the more efficiently we can pack the truck. Please be considerate of each box’s weight and size. Yes, we are strong movers, but if you can’t lift it, it will be difficult for us to move it. Also, over-packed boxes tend to break at the bottom. Pack as evenly and as lightly as possible. ALWAYS tape the bottom of your boxes. A “four corner fold” does not work! Please use boxes even for items that you might think a bag would work better. Why? Bags do not stack and bags will end up taking us longer to move. (This being said sometimes they are unavoidable i.e. pillows, bedding, sports gear etc).
2. Empty Your Dressers and Cabinets
We ask that all dressers, drawers, desks and anything with doors on them be emptied, especially filing cabinets! Loose contents can damage the interior and the overall structure of the furniture during transport. Also, additional weight makes maneuverability limited; it is much easier to lift, shift and move large furniture if they have been emptied of their contents. (We shrink wrap all drawers to the furniture at no additional cost.)
3. Don’t Water Your Plants
If you are planning on getting us to move your plants please DO NOT water them for 2-3 days before the move. They not only drip on your movers but also leak in the back of the truck and possibly on your furniture. If it is raining during the days before your move, please consider covering the soil with plastic to reduce the mess your plants will make.
4. Bathroom Etiquette
As a basic courtesy, we ask that you pack all plungers, diaper genies, litter boxes and toilet brushes in a box or place them in a large sealed plastic bag.
5. Eliminate Pet Waste
If you have pets we ask that you please vacuum all furniture with pet hair on it prior to our arrival, and please consider dusting or having paper towel handy so that we can wipe off any dust covered furniture. Your pet’s clean litter box should placed in a sealed bag.
If you follow the steps above your move will be efficient and pleasant for everyone! If you’re preparing for a move, or know someone who is, we’d love to connect and give you a free estimate.
