The 3 Things You Must Know Before Moving
You’re moving – congratulations! You might not love moving as much as we do, so we’re here to help! Before you dig out the packing tape, let us fill you in on the three things you MUST know before making your move.
Do Your Research
When looking to hire movers, it’s best to educate yourself beforehand. Get some estimates from a few companies, check out their online reviews and make sure they have the right size truck for the job.
Here’s a basic rule of thumb for moving:
Bachelor = 1-ton truck
1 bedroom = 1-ton to 3-ton truck
2 bedroom = 3-ton truck
3 bedroom to 2 bedroom house = 5-ton truck.
Any apartment bigger than 3 bedrooms or house bigger than 3 bedrooms you will likely need 2 trips or 2 trucks.
Why it matters: more trips = more time = more money.
How to Pack a Box
The first things we take to the truck are your boxes. If they are all in one area and flat on top we can easily and efficiently start the move. Before packing your boxes, please note:
- Pack as evenly and as lightly as possible
- If you can’t lift it, it will be difficult for us to move it
- Over-packed boxes tend to break at the bottom
- Always tape the bottom of your boxes. A “four corner fold” does not work!
- The more uniform the box size, the faster the truck gets packed.
Going Green is Awesome
Purchasing moving boxes is expensive, and once your move is complete you’re left to deal with stacks of collapsed boxes. We highly recommend renting moving boxes from FrogBox. Just order their empty boxes online (or book through us) and get them delivered to your home. After you’ve moved and unpacked, they collect their boxes at your convenience. It’s true – it’s easy being green.
